Calvin R. Messinger, 88, formerly of Jamestown, died at 9:10 a.m. Thursday (May 12, 2011), in the War-ren County Rouse Home.

He was born in Sherman, N.Y. on Nov. 30, 1922, the son of Jake and Edith Ray Messinger.
Calvin had been em-ployed as a laborer at Pleasant Valley Industries in Clymer, and was former-ly employed at Dahlstroms. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II and fought in the North African Campaign. He was a lifetime member of the Mayville Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the Pigeon Rac-ing Club.
He is survived by two sons: Ray (Bonnie) Mess-inger, Bear Lake, Pa., and Sam (Donna) Messinger, Busti; 13 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Virginia Houghton, Ashtabula, Ohio. and Eileen Blaken-ship, Conneaut, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean Messinger; a son, Art Mess-inger; two brothers: Sam and John Messinger; two infant brothers; and two sis-ters: Edna Beardsley and Mae Weborg.
A private family grave-side memorial service will be held at a later date.
Visitation will not be ob-served. The Hubert Funeral Home and Cremation Ser-vices is in charge of ar-rangements.
