IVPA Belgium organized the second IVPA World Congress in Brussels on November 25th, 2023.

The congress was attended by pigeon vets from all over the world, including The Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Bulgaria, Portugal, United Kingdom, South Africa, USA, and of course, Belgium, the birthplace of pigeon racing.

The presentations covered different topics and were delivered by high-class lecturers, such as Dr. Roel Haesendonck, prof. Dr. Didier Marlier, vet. Ruben Lanckriet, Dr. Elisabeth Peus, PD. Dr. Dennis Rubbenstroth, Dr. Bénédicte Callens, Dr. Sebastiaan Theuns, Dr. Krzysztof Adamczyk and Prof. Dr. Tomasz Stenzel.

All the attendants agreed that the problems in pigeon medicine are almost the same all over the world, so working together on all different topics is a need.

This is the reason why IVPA was founded some years ago by Prof. Piotr Szeleszczuk from Poland, who was honored by IVPA Belgium with the “IVPA Lifetime Achievement Award” for his knowledge, expertise, skills, and as the founder of the IVPA by the current president of the IVPA Pascal Lanneau.

The congress was very useful and fruitful, not only to listen to the interesting point of views of the many top speakers but also to meet all “pigeon-minded” scientists from all over the world and exchange ideas, thoughts, etc. seeing some friends and making a bigger network.

Old topics were discussed with a fresh and open mind, and new interesting cases were talked about. IVPA wants to help the pigeons, pigeon sport, and the pigeon fancier, by exchanging information, knowledge and skills with all pigeon vets all over the world, and organizing a congress for pigeon vets is one of the tasks of IVPA.

IVPA gives also advice to national and international federations and work together with the FCI and RPP to try to tackle the problem with Avian Influenza, and in co–organisation with FCI, there will be another conference concerning AI and Pigeon Welfare during the Olympiad in january 2024 in Maastricht (NL)

Thank you to the top speakers, sponsors, and all the attendants of the congress.
